March 1994 - Derrick May at a Final Frontier night in Club UK
Liveset from techno pioneer Derrick May, recorded Club UK.
Together with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, he can be regarded as the founder of the detroit techno, which grew rapidly in the late eighties. In these years he released several leading tracks under the alias "Rhythim is Rhythim" of which the classic in both the house and techno genres, "Strings Of Life" (1987) is the most recognizable and well-known. It is based on a piano sequence by May's then-friend Michael James, and was originally at 80 BPM before May increased the tempo, chopped it up into loops, and added percussion and string samples. Other tracks that he released in the eighties under the Transmat label are "Nude Foto" (1987), "It's what it is" (1988), "Beyond the Dance" (1989).
