May 25, 1997 - BBC Essential Mix with the Sneaker Pimps live from Universe - Tribal Gathering, Huton

Live PA of the British band Sneaker Pimps at Universe - Tribal Gathering '97, broadcasted by BBC Radio 1 - Essential Mix on May 25, 1997.  Other artist that showed up in this special Tribal Gathering editiion of the Essential Mix were Justin Robertson, DJ Sneak, Kraftwerk, Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold and Way Out West, consisting of Nick Warren and Jodie Wisternoff. Also livesets from Nick Warren, Fluke, Speedy J and Orbital recorded in Huton can be found on this site. It is not clear if these were broadcasted by BBC radio 1 Essential Mix, but the presenter Annie Nightingale mentiones after the Paul Oakenfold set that Fluke and Speedy J are upcoming after Way Out West. So it is not unlikely that these were broadcasted by the BBC.

The founding members of Sneaker Pimps were Liam Howe and Chris Corner, who then recruited Kelli Dayton (aka Kelli Ali) for vocal duties and Ian Pickering to provide lyrics. They took their name from an article the Beastie Boys published in their Grand Royal magazine about a man they hired to track down classic sneakers. The Sneaker Pimps are best known for their first album, Becoming X, and particularly the singles "6 Underground", "Spin Spin Sugar", and "Tesko Suicide" from the same album.
